Solar Panel Mounts

RV Solar Connection builds their own flat mount solar panel mounting brackets made from heavy gauge aluminum which does not rust. Steel mounts will rust leading to rust stains on the roof and sides of an RV. The mounting bolts we use are made from hi-grade stainless steel and coated with thread lock to prevent them from ever coming loose from the mount.

To the right is a picture of one of six mounting brackets used on a large solar panel. Our three step sealing process insures that the roof penetration will never leak!

Angle mounts are available for tilting your solar panels towards the sun, but we have found these specialized mounting brackets to not be very user friendly. For starters you have to crawl up and down from the roof to manually tilt the panel every time you park. Before you leave the panel has to be repositioned back to its flat position. Secondly when the RV is parked you have to make sure that is parked where the sun is going to shine on the panels.

Solar Wiring

Panel wiring is comprised of a pair of either 8 gauge color coded or 10/2 UV treated copper wire. For larger solar systems we use 6 gauge wire to help prevent voltage drop on long runs. Panel wire is used for connecting panels together and running generated power to the charge controller then to the battery bank.

Battery Supplies

Battery Cable SetBattery supplies consist of #3/0 or #4/0 cable sets for inverters. Battery cables, battery disconnects, and optional battery monitors. Over size batteries will usually require a custom made battery tie down mounting system.

Inverter Fuses

There are two types of fuses that can be used when an RV's electrical system is outfitted with an inverter, a Class T Fuse or an ANL fuse. Either type of fuse will safely protect your RV's electrical system from over current loads.

As current passes through any cable heat is generated. If the inverter draws more current than the cable can handle due to heavy loads, excessive heat is produced. The fuse can handle a certain amount of excess current, but is designed to blow when the safe limits are exceeded, protecting the cable and batteries from permanent damage.

The proper sizing of cabling and fuse is very important in ensuring that this type of electrical hazard is avoided.

Class T Fuse BlockClass T Fuses are fairly expensive. They are UL rated and recommended for use with all Xantrex inverters. Class T fuses are engineered to allow momentary electrical surges without blowing.

Class T fuses are available in 200, 300, 350, and 400 amp ratings.

ANL Fuses are an economical alternative to Class T fuses. TheyANL Fuse Block are not UL rated but perfectly suited to protecting your batteries, cabling, and inverter.
I have an ANL fuse in my 5th wheel and have had no problems with it.

ANL fuses are available in 200, 300, 400, and 500 amp ratings.

Our Solar Panel Mounting System is Guaranteed not to leak!

Solar Panel Mount and Sealant

No need to worry about holes in the roof!

RV Solar Connections Solar Panel mounting system is guaranteed to never leak.

Our 3 step sealing process eliminates any possibility of rain, hail, snow or ice seeping into the mount.

Our mounting system works equally well on older aluminum or modern EPDM rubber roofs.
